Album Highlight Of The Week

Chris Brown "F.A.M.E." Rating: 9/10

So this rating may be a little biased seeing how I'm a huge fan of Chris Brown's music and the team that Jive/Zomba Records has put behind this phenomenal artist and entertainer, but writers from other critically acclaimed music review sites, such as Rolling Stone, MTV, Entertainment Weekly and USA Today, have all shared in my enthusiasm over Brown's fourth CD release.

The album features RnB, Hip-Hop and dance music and allows fans of this young artists, who have been in his corner from the beginning, to hear the stark difference and gradual maturity in his song choices and vocal ability. His current radio singles “Yeah 3x” and “Look At Me Now” are currently in the top 20 songs falling at 15 and 1 respectively.

Despite his tainted image from a domestic assault incident in 2008 involving his, then girlfriend, Rhianna, Brown’s career has show resiliency. He served multiple hours of community service for the crime and has since apologized to his fans, Rhianna and the rest of the world who had their eyes on this young music superstar.

F.A.M.E., being his first album released post-incident has received some backlash from a few reviewers who feel that Brown expresses no remorse with songs entitled “Beg For It”, “Wet The Bed”, and “No B******t”. They feel that this album might alienate his current fan base that may also be fans of Rhianna’s music. But seeing how he has paid the price for the crime that he committed, I feel that it is time to move on and let the young man do what he does best…Sing!

It's OVER! What do you keep calling for?

My first post under the LOVE category and even before it’s typed, I know you’ll enjoy it because either you ARE the person I am referring to or you have been in a similar situation and KNOW a person who fits the description that I’m talking about.

When it comes to relationships and the ends of them, I’m wondering how many other people have experienced the “I can’t take a hint” Ex, who keeps calling to ask in a million different ways, why the relationship is over. I personally feel that if a relationship has ended, there should be no explanation as to why. It’s OVER! Get a new hobby. Better yet, GET A LIFE!

I understand that it can be pretty difficult when you are the person who has been dumped and your brain is left with tons of unanswered questions, but I can tell you that it was already hard enough for the person doing the dumping to tell you that they were done with you in the first place…asking questions is an added headache to the entire equation and I find are closely comparable to stalking.

There are a few websites that I was able to find that tell the Dumped, how to get over it and I will list them below. I know a few people are going to want to sound off on this, being either for or against my opinion, and I welcome any and all comments on this topic that can be fragile for many of the faint at heart. And this song “It’s Over” by John Legend ft. Kanye West, that sums up my feelings on this post in a nutshell.

Reintroduction to Christianity

When I was growing up, my parents took my baby sister and I to church every Sunday…EVERY SUNDAY! I used to dread waking up in the mornings for church, not because I didn’t want to go, but because it was Sunday and I CLEARLY remember the Bible talking about the Sabbath…a day of rest! Ok, of course that’s what I wanted it to be, but times have changed.

For the first thirteen (13) years of my life, church on Sunday was a mandatory part of my weeks end (or beginning for all of you people who SWEAR the week begins on that day). Once I went to a boarding high school, in Kampala, Uganda in East Africa, NOT going to church became a weekly decision that I looked forward to making! I figured I had been in church long enough to understand the basic concept that Christianity and the Bible had to offer. With this in mind I stopped going to church all together and because of this, lost my religion along the way.

A few weeks ago, a good friend of mine invited me to her church to help me get reintroduced to Christianity and God. There were a couple reasons why I decided to go on that particular Sunday. First, I promised her I would because I knew she wouldn’t stop asking until I did (just kidding!) and two, I felt that it was finally time for me to take that step of getting reacquainted with God again. Without Him I’ve been feeling quite lost and alone even though I enjoy my life to the fullest. Going to church again being the first small step, I’m hoping to be fully reintroduced to Christianity and rebuild a relationship with God that has long been lost.

What are your thoughts on my/ or your own situation with Religion?

Album Highlight of the Week

Marsha Ambrosius "Late Nights & Early Mornings" rating: 8/10

It’s been about five very long years (2006) since RnB/Soul duo Floetry have put out their last music as a group., but on March 1st, 2011 fans were blessed with the release of Marsha Ambrosius’ solo album, “Late Nights & Early Mornings”. This long awaited album takes listeners on a journey through Marsha’s experiences with what she calls in an interview with the LA Times, “the growing pains of everything” in her personal life and in the music industry as a whole.  As one half of the highly acclaimed duo, Floetry, Ambrosius was reluctant to release a solo project for fears that it would not be as successful as the Floetry projects.

Her first single off of the album, “Hope She Cheats On You (With A Basketball Player)” peaked at number 22 on Billboards US R&B Chart and her second single “Far Away” currently rests in the number 8 spot on the same chart. Part of her success with this latest solo album endeavor can be attributed to her long songwriting history which includes writing “Butterflies” for Michael Jackson’s Invincible album back in 2001.

After listening to the album, I would say that it is a must have for any R&B/Soul fan. Although I feel that Marsha has taken the conservative route of R&B songwriting with this album, I still believe that it can go toe to toe with any of the albums that have been released within the last three years. Gone have been the days of music that came straight from the soul and spoke on issues that we go through all the time. “The Songstress” (As she was known in Floetry) has definitely broken the plane of top singers in the music industry with her solo album and I look forward to hearing future products from this seasoned veteran in the future.

Top 5 Women Lifetime!

A lot of guys from the age of 4 or 5, up until possibly death usually have a top five list of females whom, if they had a chance would love to date or even marry! Granted these lists are almost always based on appearance and character personalities in the movies we LOVE to watch (because none of us personally know these celebrities that we lust after), but these celebrities have left some type of impression on what we would desire in our dream girl. After reading AskMen.com's post about the Top 99 Most Desirable Women of 2011, I have decided to come up with a list of my own!

The following is my Top 5 list of women who I would love to MEET in no particular order. The reason why I say MEET and not date or marry is that I know how hard it is for an Average Vonjo to get 2 minutes of one-on-one conversation with any of these women in a world where hundreds of men similar to myself are constantly drooling over them. To have time to get to know any of them would be an amazing experience!

On to the list;

1. First up is the exotically beautiful Selita Ebanks

Many of you are just becoming hip to this “Fallen Phoenix” from Kanye West’s “Runaway” music video back in 2010, but I have been following the career of Ms. Ebanks since 2006 when I first discovered her in a “Victoria’s Secret” catalogue. What I was doing looking at that catalogue in the first place is topic for another discussion, but if she is not in your top 20, you’re sleeping on her!

2. Gabrielle “Almost too Beautiful for Words” Union

Gabrielle has always been on my list of most desirable women ever… EVER! When I tell you that I would do anything for Gabby (she’s a friend in my head so I can give her whatever nickname I’d like), I literally mean anything. I’ll spare you the details of what anything might entail, but if you can think it up in your head, just know that I’d do it!!!

3. Jessica Alba

I don’t care if Jessica Alba goes on to have 4 more children, she will always be beautiful to me!  I first found out about her while watching “Sin City” back in 2005 and have been hooked like millions of other men since.
Keep Up With Jessica Alba's Tweets

4. Halle Berry

Despite all the recent allegations of her being crazy, I am still attracted to Halle Berry. In most conversations that I’ve had with my closest male friends, Halle comes in the top 10 of each list. Her smile is infectious and Ms. Berry still looks absolutely amazing at the age of 44!

5. Eva “Hottest Latina in the Industry” Mendes

Eva Mendes is, hands down, one of the most beautiful women to ever walk the earth (in my eyes). I constantly find myself watching the movie “Hitch” starring Will Smith, Kevin James and Eva Mendes just to picture myself in Will Smith’s shoes during that movie shoot. Who wouldn’t want to have Ms. Mendes as a love interest in a movie?!?!

After looking at those five beautiful faces, can you even think clearly? Like I said before, these women are not listed in any particular order and they are in my opinion the most beautiful women in my lifetime. Below, I've added an honorable mention whose image has been engrained in my mind since I was very young. Enjoy and let me know who your top 5 are!

6. Honorable mention goes to the 1970s Pam Grier

Ms. Pam as I used to call her in the late 1980s was the very first female crush I had. My brother put on “Foxy Brown”, which I was much too young to be watching at that time (about 4 years old), but that 1970s image of Ms. Pam has stayed with me until now. The reason I say 1970s Pam Grier is that her 1970s image is what is most desirable to me. I don’t care what anyone says… Image is Everything!
